A magnet is a piece of metal that can pull some other types of metal towards it.
If we tie a threat around a magnet and then let it hang freely, the magnet will always point in a north-south direction. The end of the magnet that point north is called the north pole. The other end is called the South Pole.
Magnets strongly attract iron ,cobalt, nickel and several alloys which are a mixture of two or more metals or a metal and another substance. Steel is the most common magnetic alloy. These metasl are all described as ferromagnetic, which means that when they are near a magnet, they become magnetic.
Magnets are used in many everyday devices, such as compasses, watches and DVD players. The can also be used to separate different kind s of metal. For example, drink cans are often made from aluminum or steel. When the can are collected for recycling. They are all mixed up together. If a powerful magnet is held above the cans, it attracts the steel cans and leaves the aluminum can behind.

Skin is the largest organ on the body. It covers your body and protects it against damage, infection and drying out. Skin also helps to keep your body at a constant temperature, remove the waste and makes Vitamin D.
Skin has two main layers. The outer layer is called the epidermis. It is made up of flat, dead skin cells; titled with a tough, waterproof protein called keratin. These cells are constantly being worn away and replaced by new cells from a layer lower down.
Underneath the epidermis there is a thick layer called the dermis. It contains blood vessels, which bring food and oxygen to the skin in your blood. Underneath the dermis there is as tore of fat, which help to keep your body warm.
Skin contains cells called melanocites which produce brown substance called melanin. The amount of melanin produced affects the color of the skin. Fair skinned people only have melanin in the lower layers of the epidermis, but people with dark skin have larger amount of it in all layers. Melanin mixed with an orange chemical called carotene gives skin a yellow tint. Freckles are small patches of skin that contain more melanin than the surrounding area.
